By using usaddressgenerator.org or its REST API endpoints under /api/v1/, you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use the site.
The site generates synthetic postal addresses, phone numbers, names and other placeholder records for software testing. Every record is invented. A generated street address, unit number or recipient name does not identify a real person, a real household or a real delivery point, and no record is checked against an address-verification or deliverability service. ZIP prefixes are derived from the public USPS prefix-to-state assignment, county and city names from US Census Bureau records, and area codes from the North American Numbering Plan, which means a generated record can pair values that are individually real; the combination is still invented.
You may use the generated data and the API for software development and testing: form and field validation, staging and seed data for databases, UI and wireframe placeholders, automated end-to-end and regression suites, load testing within the rate limit, teaching material, and documentation examples. Commercial use in that context is permitted, and no attribution is required. You may store and redistribute generated records as part of a test fixture or sample dataset.
You may not use anything generated here to deceive a person or an institution. Specifically, and without limiting the general rule, you may not use generated data:
Generated phone numbers use the 555 exchange reserved for fictitious use, and generated addresses are not deliverable. Attempting to use either as a real contact point is both a breach of these terms and unlikely to work.
The API is free and requires no key. It is rate limited to 100 requests per minute per IP address; exceeding that returns HTTP 429. Batch endpoints return up to 1,000 records per request. Do not attempt to circumvent the limit by distributing requests across addresses. The limit, the endpoints and the response shapes may change, and the API carries no uptime commitment.
The site, the generated data and the reference data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the reference data is complete, current or correct, that any ZIP, county or area code pairing reflects present USPS or NANPA records, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error free. Postal and numbering data changes; a value that was right when it was recorded may be wrong now. You are responsible for deciding whether the data is suitable for what you are doing with it, and for validating anything that matters.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from use of the site, the API or the generated data, whether in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise, and whether or not we were advised of the possibility. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
You are responsible for your own use of the generated data, including any use that breaches section 3, and for any claim arising from it.
These terms may change. The date above records the last change, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms. Questions about them go to support@usaddressgenerator.org.
